Colin Powell endorses Barack Obama.

Another patriotic, informed, experienced statesman makes the right choice for America.
"Obama displayed a steadiness. Showed intellectual vigor. He has a definitive way of doing business that will do us well," Powell said.
Powell said he questioned Sen. John McCain's judgment in picking Gov. Sarah Palin as his running mate because he doesn't think she is ready to be president.
He also said he was disappointed with some of McCain's campaign tactics...

no Hermie, you weren't paying attention,...we "moonbats" have ALWAYS said it was G.W., Cheney, Rumsfeld, Rice and Rove that lied us into a war.....they USED Powell to validate those lies, and took advantage of, used, abused and betrayed his integrity in doing it.
the only thing I fault Powell for is not coming out and telling the world he was used to spread the lies for war.....but he probably wouldn't be here today if he had.
He's making up for it buy using his influence and integrity to help steer the nation away from the harmful, dangerous and damaging path BushCo has led us down, the same path McCain wants to pave into a road.
Well and accurately put Khan.....but there's just too much rational, objective truth and fact in your statement, so don't expect it to even register with Hermie or the other Neo/Con sock-puppets (I seriously doubt Hermie will even read the entire post, if at all)
Will any moonbat heads be exploding over this? After all, they’ve been vilifying Powell for years for “lying us into a war.”
I’m going to take a wild guess and say the lefties will suddenly forget all about it.
Hermione asks a good question, but it's a very easy one to answer:
When General Powell was criticized during his tenure as Secretary of State it was because he was acting as a mouthpiece for the Bush administration instead of sticking to his own principles.
Compared to other members of Georgie Junior's crew, Powell was not a favorite target of the opposition (although I'm confident you can cite some examples, H42). Liberals don't attack General Powell much because we like & agree with many of his positions;
...he is pro-choice on the abortion issue
...supports "reasonable" gun control
...supports affirmative-action programs
...opposed, and tried to prevent, the invasion of Iraq
...was a key figure in promoting tolerance for homosexual Americans in the military
...he supports building strong international alliances and adhering to the Geneva Conventions
...and in an interview with Jack Straw (U.K. Foreign Sec.) called neo-conservatives in the Bush administration "fucking crazies."
I'm sure that when he accepted a position in W's cabinet he had hopes of tempering some of this craziness. When it became obvious that Bush & his crew didn't want his opinion, only the credibility his good name could bring (by using General Powell like this, I believe Bush squandered one of his best assets), he left that administration.
I'm also sure Powell had high hopes that John McCain could bring sanity to the Republican party (he made the maximum contribution allowable to McCain's campaign) but when that didn't happen he did the correct thing and endorsed the better man for the job.
The reason Liberals (& Veterans) like me are happy to hear the news of his endorsement is that General Powell, unfettered by the constraints of "team politics" is following his conscience and standing up once again for the nation he has served so long. He is a skilled, competent, and formidable man to have on your side.
Outside the DC bubble (and your partisan head) independents and undecideds across America respect and like Powell. He was considered for McCain's VP.
Powell has known McCain for over two decades - if anyone has a well-reasoned, experience-based thoughtful position, it is he.
You are whining because you have no other choice - you are having your pasty white arse kicked from here to Boise by people smarter and more honest than you will ever be.
Live with it.
Khan, how come when Colin Powell promoted Bush's "lies," he was not someone to be believed or trusted, but now that he's endorsed Obama, he is someone to be . . . believed and trusted?
The media’s in a tizzy over Colin Powell’s Meet the Press endorsement of Barack Obama this morning.
It’s not a surprise to anyone who’s paid attention to his pro-Obama murmurings over the last four months.
How will people outside the Beltway bubble respond?
Yawn.
It’s Obama’s social liberalism, not his skin color, that attracts Powell most.

not true, hermione. hop back on your "trash talk express" broomstick and fly back into your cave.
the odds are not in powell's favor when he is up against such notorious villains as bush43, cheney, rummy, wolfowitz, bin laden and saddam.
powell was used like a rag doll by the bush administration in the build up to war and it is well documented. poor judgment from powell, yes and no - he relied on the intelligence provided to draft an appropriate speech. everyone believed the intelligence was correct. however, most insiders knew the bush regime was looking to get saddam.
"Throughout late 2001, 2002, and early 2003, the Bush Administration worked to build a case for invading Iraq, culminating in then Secretary of State Colin Powell's February 2003 address to the Security Council. Shortly after the invasion, the Central Intelligence Agency, Defense Intelligence Agency, and other intelligence agencies largely discredited evidence related to Iraqi weapons and, as well as links to Al Qaeda, and at this point the Bush and Blair Administrations began to shift to secondary rationales for the war, such as the Hussein government's human rights record and promoting democracy in Iraq."
